Jack Sinclair calf injury: Saints co-captain out

St Kilda have suffered a massive blow with co-captain Jack Sinclair limping off with a calf injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s clash against the Western Bulldogs. The injury occurred in the most innocuous of circumstances, with Sinclair barely moving when his calf gave way as teammate Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera had possession of the ball.

Sinclair ruled out, seen in moon boot

The All-Australian defender, who was playing his 60th consecutive game, was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the match and by quarter-time was limping around in a moon boot. Channel 7 boundary reporter Tom Morris said it “looked a bad one”.

“Real injury concern around Jack Sinclair, who’s playing his 60th straight game for St Kilda,” he said. “Injured his calf in that first quarter. It looked like a really bad one. It was so innocuous as well just taking off when Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera had the ball. He barely moved at all, and he’ll miss the rest of the game. Did a calf in 2024, but other than that, he’s been very injury-free for a long time.”

Crawford: ‘Massive blow’ for Saints

Hawthorn legend Shane Crawford added: “He’s a massive blow. Sets them up from half-back. Such an important player. Wonderful user. It’s going to be a tough job to try and fill that void.”

De Koning also injured but returns

The Saints copped another blow in the second term with star ruck Tom De Koning coming from the field in serious discomfort after copping a knee to the ribs. De Koning was down for several minutes before slowly walking off the field. He then went straight down to the rooms for further assessment. In good news, he was able to return to the field a short time later, but still looked a bit hampered.
