West Coast Eagles young gun Harley Reid has debuted a new cornrows hairstyle, but it hasn't won over everyone, including captain Liam Duggan. Duggan light-heartedly admitted he wasn't a fan of the look, but praised Reid for bringing his flair to the game ahead of his third AFL season.
Videos posted to Instagram by Swickcuts showed Reid's trademark flowing blonde hair braided into tight cornrows, drawing thousands of likes and supportive comments. Duggan revealed he saw the hairstyle two days ago and initially didn't like it, but noted Reid had been planning the change for a long time.
Reid was reportedly nervous to remove his hood during training in 28-degree heat at McGillivray Oval on Friday. He retained the cornrows for West Coast's first pre-season training session on Monday, though they were hidden under a blue Eagles cap.
During training, Reid sent a scare through the camp when he pulled up short during a fitness drill, but later returned after receiving treatment on his calf. Since being taken with the first pick of the 2023 draft, Reid has been a bright spot for the struggling Eagles, drawing a huge following with his standout performances.
He ended speculation about a return to his home state of Victoria in August by signing a two-year contract reportedly worth around $2 million per season.
