In a fiery Canberra Raiders Cup match, the Goulburn City Bulldogs defeated the Woden Valley Rams 28-18 despite playing with 12 men for most of the game. Forward Memphis Hennessy was sent off in the first half for a massive hit on Rams halfback Owen McCaughan, sparking a brawl. The referee told Hennessy, 'There was a late hit first, then you used your head in the push and shove. Don't question it - go.' McCaughan, described by a commentator as 'tough as a $2 steak', got back to his feet after the tackle.
In other Rugby League action, the Belconnen Sharks had two players sin-binned in the first half of their 18-10 loss to the Queanbeyan Kangaroos. One was for a dangerous tackle that lifted and slammed a player to the ground, and the other for dissent after swearing at the referee. The Gungahlin Bulls also had two second-half sin-bins in their 38-24 defeat to the Queanbeyan Blues.
In NPL Men's first grade soccer, Canberra Olympic and Belconnen United played out a thrilling 4-4 draw at O'Connor Enclosed, with the match swinging back and forth. The O'Connor Knights beat Canberra White Eagles 2-0, and Queanbeyan City defeated Canberra Juventus 3-1.
Eastlake dominated in AFL Canberra first grade, scoring an incredible 25 goals in a 25.18 (168) to 3.7 (45) win over Bateman's Bay. Thomas Wischnat kicked five goals, while James Roberts, Jackson Crowe and Joey Hancock each scored three. In the women's competition, Ainslie beat Gungahlin Jets 11.5 (71) to 0.0 (0), with Jets player Jaye 'Nemo' Anderson celebrating her 150th senior game, a club first.
