Jordan Courtney-Perkins has committed his future to Sydney FC by signing a new two-year deal, capping a remarkable turnaround that saw him go from being on the verge of leaving the club to playing every minute of their grand final run.
The defender had made only six substitute appearances under former coach Ufuk Talay before Patrick Kisnorbo took over in March. Under the new coach, Courtney-Perkins became a starter and played all 90 minutes in each of Kisnorbo's eight matches in charge, including the 1-0 grand final loss to Auckland FC last month.
"I've loved my time here, and the last few months in particular have been really enjoyable," Courtney-Perkins said. "Working under 'PK' (Kisnorbo) has been fantastic and I feel like I've developed a lot as a player. Playing in my first A-League grand final was a special experience which I will never forget. It's given me motivation to improve and help this club achieve more success."
Kisnorbo praises defender
Kisnorbo, who had previously coached Courtney-Perkins during the 2024 A-League All-Stars match, said the former Brisbane Roar player had been "excellent" and made an "enormous contribution" to Sydney's run to the grand final.
"He will be an important player for us over the next two years, and we are delighted to have re-signed him," Kisnorbo said. "He formed an exciting partnership alongside 'Poppa' (Alexandar Popovic), and as a young centre-half pairing, they showed real potential for the future."
Kisnorbo's preference for a central defensive partnership of Courtney-Perkins and Popovic has cast doubt over the Sydney futures of contracted centre-backs Marcel Tisserand and Alex Grant, who were not used by Kisnorbo after Talay's departure.
Wanderers re-sign Hammond
Meanwhile, Western Sydney Wanderers, who Talay will coach next season, have re-signed winger Aydan Hammond for two more years. Hammond made 19 appearances, 12 off the bench, during the Wanderers' difficult 2025-26 A-League season.
"I know there's still a lot more in me and I want to keep improving, keep helping the team, and keep making this community proud," Hammond said.
