Two teenage girls have been released without charge following their arrest over an alleged beach assault in Melbourne's southeast that left a younger girl injured.
Details of the Alleged Assault
Victoria Police confirmed that a 13-year-old girl sustained minor injuries during an incident near Mordialloc Pier on December 17, 2025. According to a police spokeswoman, the victim was approached by two girls before being assaulted near a toilet block close to the popular pier.
The situation was brought to an end when a man aged in his 50s or 60s intervened to stop the attack. His actions likely prevented further injury, and investigators are now keen to speak with him as a key witness.
Police Investigation and Release
On Friday, December 26, police announced they had arrested and interviewed two 15-year-old girls in connection with the assault. Both were subsequently released pending further inquiries and have not been charged at this stage.
The police probe remains active, with authorities urging anyone who witnessed the event or who may have mobile phone or other footage to contact them. This includes the man who stepped in to help the victim.
Unrelated Outburst of Violence
Victoria Police have been clear that this alleged assault is not connected to a separate, larger outbreak of violence that also occurred on the Mordialloc foreshore later on the same day, December 17.
That incident involved dozens of young people who were captured on video swarming a Woolworths supermarket on Main Street, damaging property and causing disruption. The chaos later spilled onto the beach, where some individuals clashed with police.
Kingston City Council Mayor Georgina Oxley condemned the "anti-social and dangerous behaviour" seen that afternoon. In a statement, she expressed sympathy for Woolworths staff, customers, and members of the public who were caught up in the frightening situation.
"No one should feel unsafe while going about their day, whether at work, shopping locally or relaxing by the water," Mayor Oxley said. She also thanked Victoria Police for their swift response.
Council officials confirmed they continue to work closely with police to support community safety, particularly during the busy summer holiday period.
