A 25-year-old man, who was on parole at the time, has been arrested and charged following an alleged violent domestic assault in a Canberra suburb.

Police allege violent assault in Hughes home

ACT Policing officers were called to a residence in Hughes shortly after 3pm on Friday, January 9, 2026. Upon arrival, they allege a man had assaulted his female partner inside the home. The specific allegations include that the man kicked, bit, and strangled the woman during the incident.

Multiple serious charges laid

The man was immediately arrested at the scene and taken to the ACT Watchhouse for processing. He has been formally charged with three serious offences: aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, aggravated common assault, and the charge of strangling another person.

Police confirmed the man was already on parole at the time of the alleged attack. He is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday, January 10.
