Port Stephens Man Faces Six Firearm Charges After Alarm Triggers Police Raid
Man charged with six firearm offences in Port Stephens

A 25-year-old man is facing a string of serious firearm charges after police in Port Stephens responded to a routine alarm activation and allegedly discovered a cache of unsecured weapons.

Alarm Call Leads to Major Discovery

The incident unfolded on Tuesday, December 30, when officers were called to a unit on Kelvin Grove in the Nelson Bay suburb of Kelvin Grove shortly after 10:30 am. The call-out was initially in response to an activated alarm.

Upon arrival, police claim they observed numerous unsecured firearms inside the property. This discovery prompted them to immediately declare a crime scene and secure a search warrant to conduct a thorough investigation.

Weapons and Ammunition Seized

During the subsequent search, investigators allege they seized several items of interest. The haul reportedly included multiple unregistered firearms, ammunition, and knives. The presence of unsecured and unregistered weapons formed the basis for the serious charges laid.

Following extensive inquiries, police arrested the man on Friday, January 9. He was taken into custody at the Raymond Terrace Police Station.

String of Charges and Bail Conditions

The man was charged with six separate offences. The charges include:

  • Unauthorised possession of a pistol
  • Not keeping a firearm safely
  • Unauthorised possession of a prohibited firearm
  • Possession of an unregistered firearm

He was initially refused police bail. The following day, Saturday, January 10, he faced a bail hearing where he was granted strict conditional bail.

The man is now scheduled to appear before the Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday, February 9, to answer to the charges.

This case highlights the proactive work of Port Stephens police and the serious legal consequences surrounding the improper storage and registration of firearms in New South Wales.
