Knifeman shot dead by police in Caboolture incident

A violent early morning confrontation in Caboolture has ended with police fatally shooting a knifeman who had stabbed one man and threatened a woman on Tuesday.

Violent early morning attack

Emergency services rushed to the intersection of Beerburrum Rd and Commercial Dr in Caboolture around 3.42am on Tuesday following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered a 54-year-old man with potentially life-threatening neck wounds from a stabbing attack.

The alleged offender had fled the scene on foot before police could apprehend him. The stabbing victim was transported in critical condition to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for emergency treatment.

Police confrontation and shooting

Officers located the suspect approximately 600 metres away on Margate Street, where he was threatening a 28-year-old woman with a knife. Detective Superintendent Ben Fadian confirmed that police attempted to negotiate with the 26-year-old man before the situation escalated.

"He was presenting a threat to the female and to the public," Superintendent Fadian stated. The officers ultimately shot the man when negotiations failed and the immediate threat persisted.

Police immediately administered first aid to the wounded man, but despite their efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene.

Aftermath and investigations

The woman involved in the incident sustained a laceration to her arm but declined transportation to hospital for treatment. Authorities have confirmed there was a "loose connection" between all three individuals involved, with all parties residing within the Moreton Bay area.

Superintendent Fadian acknowledged the traumatic impact on everyone involved, noting that support is being offered to the woman, witnesses, and responding officers.

The matter has now been referred to the Ethical Standards Command for investigation, with oversight from both the Crime and Corruption Commission and State Coroner as standard procedure for police shootings.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the violent incident continue as authorities work to establish the full sequence of events.
