Police in the Australian Capital Territory are appealing for public assistance after a late-night argument outside a fast-food restaurant escalated dramatically into a dangerous road rage confrontation involving a hammer.
From Fast-Food Fracas to Street Pursuit
The incident began at approximately 10:35 pm on Friday, January 4, 2026, when two groups of men became involved in an altercation outside the KFC restaurant in Dickson. Following the initial clash, the parties separated and left the scene in two vehicles.
According to an official statement from ACT Policing, one group, travelling in a white Toyota Corolla, then pursued the other group, who were in a Toyota Camry. The chase culminated on Mouat Street in the Canberra suburb.
Hammer Hurled, Window Shattered
The situation turned even more violent when the two vehicles came to a stop. Police allege that a man in the white Toyota Corolla threw a hammer at the Camry. The projectile struck its target, shattering the rear window of the vehicle.
Authorities have released details of the specific location of the hammer-throwing incident, asking for any footage or witnesses from Mouat Street between Brigalow Street and Archibald Street.
Police Launch Public Appeal
ACT Policing have made a direct call to the community for help with their investigation. They are particularly keen to identify and speak to the occupants of the white Toyota Corolla.
Investigators are also urging anyone who may have witnessed the events or, crucially, who has dash-cam footage from the Dickson area around the time of the incident, to make contact.
Members of the public with any information that could assist are asked to provide their details to Crime Stoppers ACT via its official website. When making a report, individuals should reference police incident number 8263823.
This serious incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly disputes can spiral out of control, leading to potentially life-threatening situations on Canberra's roads.
