ACT Policing has issued a public warning concerning a wanted man who is believed to be armed and potentially dangerous. Authorities are urging residents in the Canberra region to exercise caution and report any sightings immediately.
Public Alert for Armed Suspect
Police are searching for Matthew Massey, aged 49, who they allege may be in possession of weapons. In a formal appeal released on Tuesday, ACT Policing stated that Massey is wanted for questioning in connection with multiple criminal incidents.
Investigators have linked the man to a series of offences including aggravated burglary, stolen vehicles, and stolen property. Due to the potential threat, the public is strongly advised not to approach him under any circumstances.
Description and Police Appeal
Matthew Massey is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 186 centimetres (6'1") tall with a solid build. He has short hair and grey facial hair. Police have released a photograph to aid public recognition.
The directive from authorities is clear: if you see Matthew Massey, do not engage. Instead, contact the Police Assistance Line immediately on 131 444 to report his location. Police have also directly urged Massey himself to surrender at the nearest police station or to make contact with them.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Safety
The public appeal was issued on December 30, 2025, as part of an active investigation. ACT Policing's warning underscores the ongoing efforts to locate the suspect and ensure community safety.
This incident follows other recent police activities in the territory, including the Boxing Day arrest of a man accused of possessing a 3D-printed firearm and charges against a teenager for alleged Nazi salutes and vandalism at ANU buildings.
