Teen girl charged over Reid unit assault where man was found bound and gagged
17-year-old girl charged over Reid unit assault

A 17-year-old girl has been charged over her alleged involvement in a violent incident in Canberra's inner north, where a man was discovered bound, gagged, and suffering from stab wounds just days before Christmas.

Court Appearance Follows Dramatic Arrest

The teenager was due to face the ACT Children's Court on serious charges relating to the alleged assault in Reid. She is accused of acting in joint commission to intentionally inflict grievous bodily harm, intentionally wound, and forcibly confine a man.

Her court date comes after police from the Monaro Police District in New South Wales arrested her on Wednesday. ACT Policing detectives subsequently extradited her to the Australian Capital Territory to face the allegations.

Discovery of the Victim on Ainslie Avenue

The case stems from an incident on December 23, when police were called to a unit complex on Ainslie Avenue in Reid around 9am. The call came after nearby workers reported hearing cries for help.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a man and a woman who answered the door. While at the door, police heard calls for assistance from another man inside the unit. The pair at the door then allegedly fled the scene by jumping from the first-floor balcony.

The man, identified as 22-year-old Tyler Marshall Keppie from Belconnen, was caught and arrested at the time. The woman escaped, but investigators now believe she was the 17-year-old they have since charged.

Details of the Alleged Assault and Co-accused

Inside the unit, police found the alleged victim under a blanket. He was in a serious condition, with his hands tied and his mouth gagged. He had also sustained a stab wound to the chest. Paramedics transported him to hospital in a stable condition.

Keppie briefly appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court last week over his alleged role. He has not yet entered pleas to charges of inflict grievous bodily harm, intentionally wound, and forcible confinement, which are also said to have been carried out in joint commission.

The investigation, led by ACT Policing Criminal Investigations, continues as both accused individuals await their next court dates.
