Targeted shooting at Sydney home, no injuries

Early Morning Shooting Rattles Sydney Suburb

Police are investigating a targeted shooting that saw multiple bullets fired into a suburban home in Sydney's southwest during the early hours of Saturday morning. The incident occurred at a property on MacKellar Street in Casula around 2.20am, waking residents in the quiet neighbourhood.

Officers from the Liverpool City Police Area Command responded to reports of gunfire and discovered significant damage to the property. Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the shooting, and authorities confirmed there were no injuries reported.

Police Hunt for Black Audi and Suspects

Investigators have identified a vehicle of interest seen fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting. Witnesses reported seeing a black Audi driving west along Leacocks Lane, which intersects with MacKellar Street, around the time of the incident.

Detectives believe the attack was deliberate and targeted, though the motive remains unclear. Forensic specialists have examined the property for evidence, while local officers conducted door-to-door inquiries throughout Saturday.

Concerning Pattern of Sydney Shootings Emerges

This latest shooting adds to a disturbing trend of public firearm incidents across Sydney in recent months. Just days earlier, a 26-year-old man was shot in the legs outside homes on Old Kent Road in Greenacre on Wednesday.

The incident follows several other high-profile shootings in Sydney:

  • In October, former UFC fighter Suman Mokhtarian was gunned down while walking on Annaluke Street in Riverstone
  • Also in October, three shots were fired into a home on Bluegum Avenue in Prestons, narrowly missing a resident
  • In a separate October incident, Artemios Mintzas, 60, allegedly fired about 50 shots at passing vehicles from his Croydon Park property
  • In May, John Versace, a 23-year-old plumber with no criminal links, was shot dead outside his Condell Park home in a suspected case of mistaken identity

Police have established a crime scene and continue their investigations. Authorities are urging anyone with information, particularly those with dashcam or mobile phone footage from the Casula area between 2am and 2.30am on Saturday, to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
