Details of the Alleged Incidents

According to police statements, the first incident occurred on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. The man allegedly stole keys and electronic fobs from a residential complex located on Charles Street in Charlestown. Using these stolen access devices, he is then accused of entering storage cages within the same building and removing several valuable items.

The stolen property from this initial raid reportedly included:

  • A drone
  • A wheelchair
  • A beach buggy
  • A vacuum cleaner

Police further allege that the same individual targeted another complex on Charles Street on Saturday, January 17, 2026. During this second incident, an e-bike was reportedly stolen from the premises.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Officers attached to the Lake Macquarie Police District were notified of the incidents and commenced inquiries. Their investigation led to a significant development on Sunday evening when police stopped a vehicle at a service station on the Pacific Highway in Charlestown at approximately 6:25 PM.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police allegedly located and seized a bag containing several items of interest, including:

  • Multiple keys
  • Electronic fobs
  • Bolt cutters
  • A torch

The 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene and transported to Belmont Police Station for processing.

Following his arrest, the man was charged with ten separate offences. The charges include:

  1. Four counts of break and enter
  2. Stealing
  3. Three counts of destroy or damage property
  4. Possession of housebreaking implements

The accused was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Monday. The case highlights ongoing concerns about property security in residential complexes and the vulnerability of storage areas to determined thieves.
