Brazen Driveway Shooting Rocks Sydney Suburb
A 26-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being shot multiple times in what police describe as a targeted attack in Sydney's south-west. The incident occurred around 7:15pm on Wednesday evening in the quiet suburban street of Old Kent Road, Greenacre.
The victim sustained two gunshot wounds to his legs but fortunately avoided life-threatening injuries. Emergency services rushed him to Bankstown Hospital where he remains under medical care.
Police Confirm Targeted Attack
Detective Inspector Nathan Green stated unequivocally that this was not a random act of violence. "We believe the shooting was targeted," Green confirmed during a media briefing on Thursday. "It was not a drive-by. This was a targeted attack whereby the offender, on foot, approaches our victim and fires a number of shots towards him in the driveway."
Despite the seriousness of the crime, the victim is refusing to assist detectives with their investigation. Police have confirmed the man is known to them but his lack of cooperation is hampering their ability to identify the shooter.
Shooter Flees in Waiting Vehicle
According to witness accounts and police evidence, the shooter was dressed entirely in black clothing with his face covered. After firing multiple shots at two men in the driveway, the assailant fled the scene in a waiting grey Audi Q3 that was parked nearby.
Police have established multiple crime scenes, including the driveway where the shooting occurred and areas within the medical facility where the victim is being treated. Forensic teams are working to gather evidence that might lead to the shooter's identification.
Detective Inspector Green expressed concern about the brazen nature of the attack, stating: "It was a brazen attack and we are fortunate that nobody was more seriously injured or killed as a result."
Investigators are now appealing to the public for assistance. They're particularly interested in speaking with anyone who witnessed the incident or who might have security camera footage from the area around the time of the shooting.
"We are hopeful there were people around that can shed some light," Green said, urging community members to come forward with any information that could help solve this violent crime.
