Perth's Summer Safety Blitz: Extra Patrols, CCTV & Events for Busy CBD
City of Perth launches major summer safety program

The City of Perth has launched a significant summer safety campaign, deploying additional resources and community-focused activities to manage the expected influx of thousands of people into the central business district over the coming months.

OneCity Together for Summer Initiative Launched

Dubbed OneCity Together for Summer, the coordinated program is designed to maintain Perth as a "vibrant, safe and welcoming" destination during its peak season. The initiative responds to the surge of workers, shoppers, diners, and festival-goers anticipated throughout the summer and the school holiday period.

Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds emphasised the program's goal of fostering safety and community connection as public spaces reach their busiest levels. "In a city that looks out for each other, safety and vibrancy go hand in hand," he stated. "That’s why, during the first week of summer, we’re launching OneCity Together for Summer, our coordinated summer safety program supporting a 24/7 city."

Enhanced Safety Measures and Monitoring

The summer safety push includes a multi-faceted approach to security and activation. Key operational measures being implemented are:

  • Expanded SafeCity Night Patrols across the CBD and surrounding parklands.
  • The installation of additional mobile CCTV towers to boost surveillance coverage.
  • A trial of real-time decibel monitoring in Wellington Square to improve noise management for the community.

These seasonal efforts build upon the city's existing year-round safety infrastructure, which includes an extensive CCTV network, regular Ranger patrols, and ongoing lighting upgrades in public areas.

Community Events and Public Space Activation

Beyond security, the program focuses on creating a lively atmosphere through community engagement. The City will host a series of additional activations in parks, including organised community events and informal coffee catch-ups, encouraging positive social interaction.

Lord Mayor Reynolds highlighted the shared use of Perth's popular outdoor spaces. "Our parks are shared by people using them in many ways such as for sport, family gatherings, exercise and cultural celebrations," he said. "With so many different activities happening side-by-side, social understanding and respect for one another are essential."

The mayor concluded by reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the campaign: "This summer, we’re working as one community to create a city that’s safe, welcoming and full of life." The City of Perth and its partners are coordinating these efforts to ensure residents and visitors alike can enjoy the warm weather and long evenings in the heart of the city.
