Cairns Magistrates Court saw another busy day of proceedings this Thursday, with a diverse range of cases coming before the bench. Here's what went down in the courtroom.
Assault and Domestic Violence Cases
The court heard several serious matters involving alleged violence. A 39-year-old Manoora man faced charges including common assault and contravening a domestic violence order. Meanwhile, a 36-year-old Manunda woman answered to charges of common assault and breaching bail conditions.
In another concerning case, a 44-year-old Manunda man appeared on multiple counts of common assault, along with charges of obstructing police and contravening a domestic violence order.
Drug-Related Offences
Drug possession featured prominently in Thursday's list. A 25-year-old Manunda woman faced charges of possessing dangerous drugs, while a 36-year-old Woree man answered to similar allegations.
The drug cases weren't limited to simple possession - a 36-year-old Mooroobool man faced more serious charges of supplying dangerous drugs.
Traffic and Driving Offences
Several defendants appeared for various traffic violations. A 36-year-old Manoora man faced charges of driving without a licence, while a 46-year-old Westcourt woman answered to allegations of unlicensed driving and possessing drug utensils.
More serious driving matters included a 39-year-old Westcourt man charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Property and Fraud Charges
The court also dealt with property-related offences. A 37-year-old Mooroobool man faced charges of fraud, while a 39-year-old Manoora woman answered to allegations of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
In what appeared to be a coordinated case, two individuals - a 37-year-old Manoora woman and a 38-year-old Manoora man - both faced charges of entering a dwelling with intent.
Weapons and Other Offences
A 44-year-old Mooroobool man faced serious charges including unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a knife in a public place.
