Shooting Stars celebrates 10-year milestone in Perth

The Shooting Stars engagement program commemorated a significant decade of operation with a celebratory gala at The Ritz-Carlton, Perth. Staff, partners, supporters, and friends gathered in style to mark the ten-year milestone of the initiative dedicated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and young women.

A Night of Culture and Celebration

The evening on Tuesday, 23 December 2025, commenced with a soulful performance by award-winning Noongar Nunga musician Indigo Ellis as guests arrived. The formal proceedings opened with a heartfelt Welcome to Country by Honey Webb, followed by a vibrant cultural performance from her dance group, Kwopidok Kenniny Yok.

Keynote addresses were delivered by Shooting Stars executive officer Helen Ockerby, Glass Jar Australia Chairperson Glenda Kickett, and the Minister for Heritage Simone McGurk. Their speeches highlighted the program's profound impact on fostering connection, learning, leadership, and wellbeing within host schools and communities.

Showcasing Success and Artistic Talent

The gala featured a dynamic partner panel discussion and special award presentations honouring the program's achievements. A unique highlight was a live artwork created throughout the evening by Karajarri, Naaguja, Noongar, Māori artist Jarnda Councillor-Barns, providing a visual testament to the night's energy and creativity.

Dancing into the Future

As the formal events concluded, the atmosphere shifted to pure celebration. Guests took to the dancefloor, energised by the live beats of band Get Groove. The party continued into the night with tunes spun by DJ Agapantha, capping off a memorable evening that honoured a decade of progress and looked forward to the future.

The event successfully celebrated ten years of the program walking alongside young Indigenous women, reinforcing its vital role in the community and setting the stage for continued impact in the years to come.
