Canadian Prime Minister to Embark on Historic Australian Visit
Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to travel to Australia as part of a significant three-country tour that also includes India and Japan. The visit is scheduled from February 26 to March 7, with Carney arriving in Sydney on March 3-4 before proceeding to Canberra on March 5.
During his time in Australia, Carney will engage in high-level discussions with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The talks are aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation across several critical areas, including defence and maritime security, critical minerals, trade, and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence.
This visit marks a historic moment as Carney will deliver a speech to both houses of Australia's federal parliament. This address will be the first by a Canadian leader in nearly two decades, underscoring the importance of the diplomatic relationship between the two nations.
In addition to political meetings, Carney plans to connect with business leaders and investors to attract new capital into Canada. In a recent statement, he emphasized Canada's strategic focus in an uncertain global landscape.
"In a more uncertain world, Canada is focused on what we can control," Carney said. "We are diversifying our trade and attracting massive new investment to create new opportunities for our workers and businesses. We are forging new partnerships abroad to create greater certainty, security and prosperity at home."
