Two Charged After Wild Wagga Wagga Chase

Two men are set to face court following a chaotic chase between a car and a motorbike in southwest New South Wales. The incident began around 2:30am on Friday when an 18-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman allegedly smashed the front window of a home in Glenfield Park, Wagga Wagga. Police allege the man punched the window, shattering the glass, before fleeing on a motorbike ridden by the woman.

The 53-year-old homeowner allegedly followed the motorbike in his car towards Fernleigh Road in Ashmont. Police claim he smashed into the motorbike, causing both riders to fall, then reversed and drove forward over the bike before leaving the scene.

The woman sustained critical injuries and was treated at the scene before being rushed to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital. She was later transferred to St George Hospital. The younger man suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene before being arrested.

The 18-year-old has been charged with destroying or damaging property and failing to wear a properly fitted helmet. He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court on January 28.

The 53-year-old man was arrested at a Glenfield Park home about 8:30am on Friday. He faces multiple charges, including negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, causing bodily harm by misconduct, failing to stop and assist after a crash causing grievous bodily harm, failing to provide particulars to the injured person, and failing to keep a firearm safely. He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Bail Division Court 5 on Saturday.

Police told 7NEWS the two parties are known to each other and there are no ongoing threats to the public.
