Police Thwart Alleged 'Kill Car' Plot in Western Sydney

In a dramatic police operation in western Sydney, authorities have uncovered what they describe as an alleged "kill car" containing a cache of dangerous items, including a modified shotgun, sledgehammers, and jerry cans of fuel. Two 22-year-old men were arrested on Wednesday afternoon after being tracked by specialist officers, leading to serious firearm charges.

Home Invasion Sparks Investigation

The incident began early Wednesday morning when four men, reportedly armed with a hammer and a gun, broke into a home on Karangi Road in Whalan around 2:40 am. Fortunately, the four occupants were unharmed during the invasion, and the suspects fled the scene in a black Mercedes SUV. This break-in prompted an immediate investigation by detectives, who quickly moved to identify and monitor the suspects.

Discovery of the Alleged 'Kill Car'

Later that day, detectives allegedly observed two men unloading items from a black Mercedes SUV into a Hyundai hatchback at a property on Lissanthe Street in Marsden Park, located approximately 4 kilometers northeast of the Whalan home. The hatchback was then followed by police for a short period before being intercepted by the NSW Police's renowned Raptor Squad on nearby Richmond Road.

Upon searching the vehicle, police claim to have uncovered a disturbing array of items, including:

  • A modified pump-action shotgun with a scope and laser pointer attached
  • Ammunition
  • Jerry cans of fuel
  • Three sledgehammers
  • Four baseball bats
  • Duct tape and cable ties
  • Pillowcases

Images released by police show the shotgun equipped with enhancements, highlighting the seriousness of the alleged plot. The presence of fuel and weapons has led authorities to label the vehicle as a potential "kill car," suggesting it may have been intended for violent purposes.

Arrests and Charges

The two 22-year-old men from Blackett and Colyton, who were allegedly inside the hatchback, were promptly arrested and charged with firearm offences. Following the arrest, Raptor Squad officers executed a search warrant at the Lissanthe Street home, where they allegedly seized the black Mercedes SUV linked to the earlier home invasion.

Both men have been refused bail and are currently awaiting court proceedings. Police are urging anyone with additional information to contact Crime Stoppers to assist with the ongoing investigation.

This case underscores the proactive efforts of NSW Police in combating violent crime and highlights the critical role of specialized units like the Raptor Squad in maintaining public safety in Sydney's western suburbs.
