A viral video showing a police car colliding with another vehicle at a Townsville intersection has prompted an investigation by Queensland Police. The footage, shared widely on social media, captures two police cars traveling through a red light with sirens activated when a white Mitsubishi Pajero Sport fails to stop, striking one of the patrol cars at high speed and causing it to tip onto its side.
Queensland Police confirmed the incident occurred on Friday, June 7, around 10:50 AM at the intersection of Riverway Drive and Hervey Range Road in Kirwan. Two police officers and the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were taken to hospital for observation. The other vehicle was not stolen, according to police.
The video was posted on the Facebook page Dash Cam Owners Australia, drawing hundreds of comments. One user remarked, “Would be interesting to see how the lawyers argue this one.”
In a separate incident on the same day in Queensland, a police officer and a two-year-old child were among three people seriously injured in a crash. A Queensland Police spokesman said initial investigations indicated a police vehicle was stopped on the side of the motorway performing traffic duties when it was struck. The 54-year-old male police officer, a 54-year-old female driver of a ute, and her two-year-old passenger were hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver of a third vehicle who stopped to assist was not injured.
