A police officer has been taken to hospital and two men are in custody following a dramatic overnight chase that started with a home invasion in Sydney's Inner West.
Early Morning Home Invasion Sparks Incident
Police were called to a property on Crystal Street in Petersham at approximately 2am on Saturday after reports of a home invasion. As officers arrived and began to establish a perimeter around the address, the situation escalated rapidly.
A white van allegedly struck a male police sergeant at the scene before speeding away. The officer received treatment for minor injuries at the location before being transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.
Cross-Suburb Pursuit Ends in Arrests
The suspect vehicle was located a short time later, just hundreds of metres away on Trafalgar Street. When the driver failed to stop for police, a pursuit was initiated.
With assistance from the PolAir helicopter, officers tracked the van as it travelled through multiple suburbs in the Inner West. The chase finally concluded when the vehicle stopped in Henley Park, roughly 8 kilometres west of the original incident in Croydon Park.
Footage from the scene showed the van stationary near some fitness equipment, with visible marks and scratches along its driver's side.
Two Men in Custody, Investigation Continues
At the scene in Henley Park, police arrested two men aged 41 and 38. Both were taken to Burwood Police Station for questioning. As of now, no formal charges have been laid as the investigation remains active.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any further information related to the home invasion or the subsequent police chase. Anyone with details is urged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
