Police have arrested a 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman in Mayfield, Newcastle, following a raid that uncovered a significant cache of cash, drugs, and luxury items. The operation, part of Strike Force Byssi targeting drug supply in the area, led to the seizure of over $27,000 in cash, four motorcycles, a hydraulic press, and cannabis from a home on Woodstock Street.
Further searches at storage facilities in Kotara and Raymond Terrace revealed a 1969 Ford Mustang and a jet ski, which authorities believe were purchased with proceeds from illegal drug sales. The total value of seized assets, including cash, is estimated at $77,000.
Sean Roe, 21, has been charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug and dealing with the proceeds of crime. He appeared in Newcastle Local Court, where bail was formally refused. The 22-year-old woman was released pending further investigations.
Strike Force Byssi was established in July to investigate the supply of illegal drugs, particularly cocaine, into Newcastle. Police continue to urge anyone with information about drug activity to come forward.
