A man armed with a bow and arrow has been fatally shot by police officers in the New South Wales town of Gunnedah, following a tense standoff on Friday afternoon.
Confrontation on Quia Road
Police were called to a residence on Quia Road in Gunnedah at approximately 1:40 PM on Friday, responding to reports expressing concern for a person's welfare. Initial discussions took place between officers and the man outside the property.
The situation escalated when the man retreated inside the home and then re-emerged carrying a bow and arrow. In response to the direct threat, police personnel moved back to their vehicles to take cover.
Officers Forced to Discharge Firearm
According to official statements, the critical moment occurred when the man aimed the weapon at the police. A firearm was discharged by an officer during the incident.
Paramedics from NSW Ambulance rushed to the scene and provided emergency medical treatment to the man. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and could not be revived.
