Man charged with murder after fatal Fitzroy stabbing

A 23-year-old man from Fitzroy has been formally charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of another man in an inner-city Melbourne apartment block late last year.

Details of the Fatal Incident

The alleged attack occurred inside a residential building on Napier Street in Fitzroy on December 22. The victim, a 43-year-old man, suffered critical stab wounds during the incident.

Emergency services rushed the injured man to hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following an extensive investigation, Victoria Police executed two search warrants on Napier Street last Friday. The operation involved a raid conducted with the assistance of the elite Special Operations Group.

This led to the arrest of a 23-year-old Fitzroy man, who was subsequently interviewed by detectives. He was charged on Saturday with one count of murder.

Police have stated that the accused and the victim were known to each other.

Court Appearance and Further Violence

The charged man is scheduled to face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

This arrest came only hours before another violent death occurred just metres away on the same street. In the early hours of the morning, shots were fired in the inner-north suburb, and a body was later discovered at the intersection of Brunswick Street and King William Street.

The back-to-back incidents have shocked the local Fitzroy community, raising concerns about violent crime in the area.
