Young Man Fatally Shot in Melbourne's West
A 26-year-old man has died after being shot at a residential property in Melbourne's western suburbs. The incident occurred on Second Avenue in Altona in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Emergency services rushed to the scene just after 3:30am following reports of a shooting. Despite their efforts, the young man could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the location.
Police Investigation Underway
Victoria Police have cordoned off the property as they continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Police have not yet determined if the man's death is suspicious, leaving many questions unanswered about what transpired.
The crime scene remained active throughout Tuesday morning, with a red vehicle parked in the driveway behind police tape. Forensic teams are working to gather evidence from the property as detectives speak with neighbours and potential witnesses.
Neighbourhood Reacts with Shock
Local residents expressed surprise and concern about the violent incident occurring in their typically quiet community. One neighbour told 7NEWS they believed an elderly couple lived at the address where the shooting occurred.
"I'm just surprised because I see (the couple) driving out," the neighbour commented, indicating the incident appeared out of character for the property.
Another resident, Harris Boubis, shared his concerns about the shooting. "That sort of incident isn't something I'd ever (think) would happen around here," Boubis stated, reflecting the community's shock at the violent event in their peaceful neighbourhood.
The investigation continues as police work to piece together the events leading to the young man's death. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they seek to provide answers to the victim's family and the concerned Altona community.
