Double Tragedy on Major Australian Highway
A weekend of horror on the Hume Highway has left two people dead and another fighting for life after separate serious crashes occurred on Sunday, November 30, 2025. Emergency services responded to two major incidents along the key transport route within hours of each other, with investigations now underway into both tragedies.
Southern Highlands Collision Claims Elderly Driver
The first fatal incident occurred at Sutton Forest in the Southern Highlands at 3:20pm on Sunday. According to NSW Police, an elderly woman believed to be in her 70s was driving a car that collided with a truck. Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics who treated her at the scene, the woman could not be saved and died at the crash site.
A passenger in the same vehicle, identified as a 66-year-old woman, received treatment from paramedics before being airlifted to Liverpool Hospital for further care. The truck driver involved, a 31-year-old man, was transported to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing as part of standard police procedures following serious collisions.
Early Morning Rollover Proves Fatal at Gunning
Earlier that same day, emergency services were called to another serious crash further south on the Hume Highway at Gunning, between Goulburn and Yass, at 6:45am. Police reported that a vehicle had left the roadway and rolled, resulting in tragic consequences.
A passenger in the vehicle died at the scene despite paramedics' efforts, while the driver was treated by emergency crews before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition. The identity of the deceased passenger has not yet been formally released as authorities work to notify next of kin.
NSW Police have established crime scenes at both locations as investigations into the causes of these separate accidents continue. A report will be prepared for the coroner regarding both fatalities, which will examine the circumstances surrounding these tragic losses of life on one of Australia's busiest highways.
