Rideshare Driver Charged After Fatal Crash Kills Baby in Perth

A 35-year-old rideshare driver has been charged following a crash in Perth's southeast that killed a seven-month-old baby and injured two others. The incident occurred on Nicholson Road in Lynwood around 3:40 am on Saturday when the vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

The baby was one of three passengers in the silver Toyota Kluger. A 32-year-old woman and the infant were taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital with serious injuries, where the baby later died. A three-year-old child was transported to Perth Children's Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver, a man from Caversham, faces one count of dangerous driving occasioning death and two counts of dangerous driving occasioning bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear at Armadale Magistrates Court on April 20.

The crash was so severe that it destroyed a concrete bus stop bench before hitting the tree. Residents nearby were awakened by the impact, with about ten people rushing to assist, some providing first aid. One witness recounted the female passenger pleading for help, saying, 'My baby's not crying, please help us.' Bystanders performed CPR on the baby before emergency services arrived.

Police are appealing for public assistance, urging anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the vehicle in the area beforehand to contact Crime Stoppers.
