A 26-year-old man has died after a head-on collision with a truck driving the wrong way on the Bruce Highway at Burpengary. Police believe the truck was being followed by at least one other vehicle.
Emergency services were called just after 10:30pm on Tuesday to find the Isuzu truck travelling southbound in the northbound lane had crashed into a Honda car. The driver of the car, a 26-year-old from Caboolture, died at the scene.
The truck driver was taken to hospital with multiple injuries and remains in a life-threatening condition. Detective Inspector David Harbison said he would not be able to be interviewed soon.
Police have received varying reports on how many vehicles were following the truck. Detective Harbison said there was evidence of at least one other vehicle, which continued southbound in the northbound lane but was not sighted after the crash.
Based on initial dashcam footage, the truck appeared to be travelling at excessive speed. The crash is being treated as a major crime, with detectives reviewing CCTV, dashcam footage and witness statements.
Police urge anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward directly, rather than commenting on social media. The northbound lanes were closed for several hours but have since reopened.
