Perth Wine Bar Celebrates Fondue Comeback This Winter
Fondue Returns to Perth at Small Print Wine Bar This Winter

Small Print wine bar in Brookfield Place, Perth, has launched its annual winter experience 'Fromage Affair', celebrating the return of fondue as a cozy shared dining trend. The event features the bar's popular Trio Swiss Fondue, served with house-made bread and selected wines, catering to increased demand for melted cheese dishes.

Rising Demand for Shared Dining

Venue manager Marco Mencaroni noted a growing preference for communal meals during winter. "Fondue creates conversation around the table and encourages people to slow down and enjoy the moment together, which is something people really appreciate during winter," he said. "Winter is all about warmth and comfort, and fondue delivers both."

Perfecting the Fondue Recipe

Mencaroni emphasized the importance of balanced flavors in a good fondue. "You want quality cheeses that bring nuttiness, richness and a slight sharpness without becoming too heavy," he explained. "The texture should be smooth and silky, with just enough white wine and garlic to lift the flavours rather than overpower them. We use a blend of Gruyère AOP Emmentaler AOP and mountain cheese, which gives a really balanced result."

Pairing Suggestions

The Swiss dish is traditionally paired with crusty bread, but Mencaroni recommends potatoes, cured meats, cornichons, and pickled vegetables as excellent accompaniments. For drinks, he suggests a crisp white wine or a medium-bodied red, depending on personal preference.

Small Print's Fromage Affair runs throughout winter, offering a cozy dining experience in the heart of Perth. The Trio Swiss Fondue is available as part of the event, showcasing the bar's commitment to reviving retro dining trends.
