Laura Henshaw Addresses Criticism Over Breastfeeding During Podcast Recording
Health and wellness influencer Laura Henshaw has publicly responded to negative feedback after facing backlash for breastfeeding her infant son while filming a podcast episode. The 32-year-old co-founder of the Kic app and host of the Kic Pod found herself at the centre of online controversy following a recent recording.
Controversy Erupts Over Motherhood Challenges Discussion
During a podcast episode focusing on the difficulties of balancing motherhood with professional responsibilities, Henshaw breastfed her four-month-old son Atlas. A clip shared on her Instagram account quickly attracted criticism from some followers who questioned the appropriateness of breastfeeding on camera.
"Imagine a guy did this. Because he was in a rush, he just had to film a podcast with his p...s out. I know this is brave and stunning and all," one commenter remarked. Another added: "I have also been around children, they don't need to be fed 24/7. Is it possible that you could feed your baby and then do a podcast five minutes later? And keep your t...ies in. Or do you just have to be brave and show everybody?"
Henshaw's Direct Response to Critics
In a firm response posted to her Instagram account, Henshaw addressed the negative comments directly. "I'm not 'brave', I'm just doing my best and feeding my child. I'm learning so many things in our world are not really designed for mothers," she stated.
The influencer expressed frustration with the criticism, adding: "I'm too tired to go into why these comments on a video of my breastfeeding is so so very wrong." Her response highlights the ongoing challenges mothers face when navigating professional commitments alongside childcare responsibilities.
Personal and Professional Milestones
This controversy comes during a significant period in Henshaw's personal life. She and her entrepreneur husband Dalton welcomed their first son in December, marking a new chapter in their family life. The couple has also recently listed their renovated Brighton home for private sale.
Originally purchased in 2021 for $4.4 million, the Federation-style property underwent extensive renovations with Baylon Architects. Now complete, the home features amenities reflecting Henshaw's wellness focus including space for a gym or studio, swimming pool, spa and sauna. The property has been listed with a price guide of $8.5 million to $9.1 million.
Background of the Kic Founder
Laura Henshaw co-founded the health and wellness company Kic with Steph Claire Smith in 2015. The success of their venture earned both women positions on the Young Rich List in 2021. After serving as chief executive, Henshaw transitioned to a founder and advisory role, handing over leadership to Jane Martino, co-founder of Smiling Mind.
This incident underscores the complex intersection of motherhood, professional life, and public perception that many women in the public eye navigate regularly.
