A quiet evening in Adelaide's southern suburbs turned deadly on Wednesday after a man was fatally shot during an alleged street altercation.

South Australia Police were called to Oakley Road at McLaren Flat just before 6pm on Wednesday evening following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, emergency services discovered a grim scene.

A 62-year-old local man was found deceased at the location. He had suffered gunshot wounds.

Arrests and Charges Laid

Police swiftly moved through the area and arrested two men nearby. The suspects, aged 40 and 69, are both residents of McLaren Flat.

Both men have been charged with murder and possessing an unregistered firearm. Neither man applied for bail during their initial processing. They are scheduled to face the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Detectives investigating the homicide have confirmed they have recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the incident.
