A fisherman has had a dramatic escape after a frightening encounter with a school of bull sharks in waist-deep water near the popular tourist town of Exmouth in Western Australia's north.
Close Call in Shallow Water
The incident occurred around 5pm on Sunday, November 30, when the man was fishing in shallow water. He was repeatedly charged by several bull sharks, each measuring approximately two metres in length. In a terrifying moment, the sharks made physical contact, bumping into the man before he managed to fend them off and escape to safety without any injuries.
Official Shark Warning Issued
Following the alarming incident, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) swiftly issued a formal shark warning for the Bundegi Inner Reef in Exmouth. Authorities are urging swimmers, surfers, and other beachgoers to take additional caution in the area and to strictly adhere to any beach closures that may be implemented.
DPIRD officers, along with staff from other relevant agencies, are now actively monitoring the situation. The public is advised to stay vigilant and report any shark sightings immediately.
