Beach Closed After Shark Sighting
A popular beach in Perth's south has been abruptly closed to swimmers and beachgoers following a confirmed shark sighting dangerously close to the shore. The incident has prompted an immediate safety response from local lifeguards.
Details of the Sighting
The closure of Secret Harbour Beach on Palermo Cove was enacted after lifeguards spotted a shark estimated to be two metres in length. The sighting occurred at 10:04am on Wednesday, with the shark reported to be swimming approximately 200 metres offshore. While the specific breed of the shark remains unknown at this stage, it is believed to be moving in a northerly direction along the coast.
Safety Measures and Public Urged to Comply
In response to the potential threat, authorities have shut down the beach to the public until further notice. Perth locals and visitors are strongly urged to avoid the area for their own safety. The public plays a crucial role in shark monitoring and is asked to remain vigilant. Any further shark sightings should be reported immediately to the Water Police on 9442 8600 or by using the official SharkSmart app.
The situation is being actively monitored, and updates on the beach's status are expected to follow as more information becomes available.
