A murder investigation is underway on South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula after the body of a 71-year-old man was discovered at a popular holiday park.
Grim Discovery at Tourist Park
The man was found deceased inside a cabin at the BIG4 Port Willunga Tourist Park on Tuit Road around 2:15 pm on Monday. The discovery immediately triggered a major police response.
In a significant development occurring at roughly the same time, a 49-year-old local man presented himself at a police station. The Aldinga resident was subsequently arrested in connection with the death.
Arrest and Charges Laid
The arrested man was seen with his hands secured in evidence bags as he was transported via ambulance to hospital for a medical assessment. He has since been charged with murder and was refused police bail.
He is scheduled to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Tuesday. South Australia Police have moved quickly to reassure the public, stating this was not a random incident.
"Police advise this was not a random incident and both men were known to each other," an SA Police statement confirmed. "No one else is being sought in relation to the death."
Neighbours at Caravan Park
7NEWS reports that the 49-year-old accused and the 71-year-old victim were neighbours at the caravan park. Investigators have established two separate crime scenes within the holiday park premises.
One scene encompasses a group of dwellings, while the other is focused around a caravan and a gopher. Forensic officers are meticulously examining both locations as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death continues.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the normally tranquil coastal community, with the holiday park now at the centre of a tragic and unfolding police probe.
