A major homicide investigation has been launched by Queensland Police following the death of a man from stab wounds in the Cairns suburb of Woree.
Police Respond to Disturbance
Emergency services were called to a residence on Martyn Street just after 9:30 PM on Tuesday, April 29, following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with critical injuries.
The man, who has not yet been formally identified, was treated at the scene by paramedics but died a short time later from his wounds. A crime scene was immediately declared, which remained in place throughout Wednesday as forensic specialists conducted a detailed examination.
Appeal for Public Information
Detectives from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch are leading the inquiry and are treating the death as a homicide. They are now urgently appealing to the public for assistance.
Police are keen to speak with anyone who was in the Martyn Street area on Tuesday evening and may have witnessed any suspicious activity. They are particularly interested in dashcam or CCTV footage from the vicinity between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM.
"Our investigators are working diligently to establish the full circumstances surrounding this man's death," a police spokesperson stated. "Any piece of information, no matter how small it may seem, could be vital to the investigation."
