Perth Traffic Chaos: Breakdowns and Crashes Cause Delays

Perth Morning Commute Hit by Multiple Incidents

Perth drivers are facing a difficult Thursday morning commute with significant delays reported across several major arterial roads. The disruptions are the result of multiple, simultaneous incidents, including truck breakdowns and a crash, creating congestion hotspots during the peak travel period.

Key Trouble Spots Causing Gridlock

The problems began early, with a truck breaking down on the Mitchell Freeway southbound before Shenton Avenue in Joondalup. Main Roads WA reported the vehicle was in the left emergency lane at 7:10am. As a result, traffic is moving slowly on approach, with the queue of vehicles stretching back to Neerabup Road.

In a separate incident affecting another major route, a truck breakdown has also impacted the Roe Highway northbound. The vehicle was partially blocking the left lane just before Clayton Street, contributing to heavy traffic conditions in the area throughout the morning.

Crash and Spill Adds to Commuter Woes

Further complicating the morning drive, a crash occurred on the Tonkin Highway southbound after Morley Drive in Embleton. The incident led to the closure of the right lane. Vision from the scene showed a black vehicle obstructing the lane, and DFES crews were dispatched to manage a reported large spill on the road.

While Main Roads WA confirmed the scene was cleared by 7:30am, they have warned that traffic remains heavy on approach as the backlog clears. Motorists are being urged to drive with caution and merge safely near all affected sites as congestion continues to build.

Authorities are reminding drivers to check live traffic updates for the latest information before heading out.
