M1 Motorway Chaos After Truck Crashes and Catches Fire
A major traffic incident has forced the closure of a key New South Wales motorway after a semi-trailer crashed and burst into flames. The dramatic event occurred on the M1 at Morisset around 11.30pm on Sunday, sending emergency crews scrambling to the scene.
Emergency Response and Diesel Spill
The semi-trailer collided with a guard rail, causing the vehicle to catch fire. Fire & Rescue NSW crews successfully extinguished the blaze but are now faced with the secondary challenge of containing a significant diesel spill from the damaged truck. Clean-up efforts are currently underway to make the area safe.
Road Closures and Travel Warnings
As a direct result of the crash and ongoing clean-up, the southbound lanes of the M1 motorway have been closed. Authorities have established traffic diversions, but significant delays are expected. Police are urging drivers to avoid the area entirely and to postpone any non-essential travel while the situation is resolved. An investigation into the cause of the crash is now being conducted by police.
