A residential property in Singleton has been completely destroyed following a devastating overnight fire that emergency services are treating as suspicious.
The intense blaze erupted at the single-storey home on The Retreat, with firefighters from multiple stations rushing to the scene around 10:30 PM Tuesday night. Despite their efforts, the property was completely gutted by the ferocious flames.
Hunter Valley Police District has confirmed they've launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire. Forensic specialists have been combing through the charred remains of the property, looking for evidence that might explain how the inferno started.
Neighbours reported hearing loud noises and seeing flames shooting into the night sky, prompting several emergency calls to triple-zero. The remote location of the property presented additional challenges for fire crews accessing the scene.
Police are now appealing to the public for information, particularly from anyone who might have witnessed suspicious activity in the The Retreat area on Tuesday evening. They're also seeking dashcam footage from motorists who travelled through the region between 9 PM and 11 PM.
The destruction comes as a shock to the tight-knit Singleton community, with local residents expressing their concern about the incident. The property has been left structurally unsound and is considered a total loss.
Investigators remain on site as they work to determine the exact cause of the blaze. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers or their local police station.
