Human Bones Discovered on Rottnest Island During Construction Project
Police in Western Australia have confirmed that several bones found on Rottnest Island, a popular holiday destination off the coast of Perth, are human. The remains were uncovered on Wednesday during construction work at the grounds of the Holy Trinity Church, which is part of a bus stop project. The scene was promptly cordoned off as officers conducted their investigation.
Forensic Analysis Underway to Determine Age of Bones
On Thursday, WA Police announced that a forensic pathologist had determined the recovered bones are human. The remains have been transported to Perth for further forensic assessment, which aims to reveal how old the bones are. Inquiries into this discovery are ongoing, with authorities working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the find.
Separate Bicycle Crash Investigation on the Island
This discovery comes as police are also investigating a serious bicycle crash on Rottnest Island that left an international tourist fighting for her life. The 38-year-old woman fell from her bike on Digby Dr in the Thompson Bay area around 5pm on Tuesday. She sustained serious, life-threatening head injuries and was flown from the island to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition. WA Police stated that the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
