Body Recovered from Water After Fisherman Incident at Beecroft Peninsula
An investigation is currently underway after a body was recovered from the waters of Beecroft Peninsula on Sunday morning, located approximately 111 kilometres south of Wollongong. Emergency services were alerted to the area at Beecroft Parade around 11.50am on March 1, following urgent reports that a fisherman had slipped into the water.
Officers from the South Coast Police District, along with personnel from the Marine Area Command, NSW Ambulance, and Surf Life Saving NSW, immediately commenced a coordinated search operation to locate the missing individual. A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance confirmed that a Toll Rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene, where its crew performed a critical winch operation as part of the rescue efforts.
Body Found After Intensive Search Operation
The man's body was successfully recovered from the water approximately one hour later, just before 1pm. While formal identification has not yet been completed, authorities believe the deceased is a missing fisherman in his 50s, who was reported to have fallen into the water earlier that day.
Police have established a crime scene at the location to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. A detailed report will be prepared for the Coroner to determine the exact cause of death and any contributing factors.
