This year's My Kitchen Rules winners have been revealed, taking home the $100,000 prize by the slimmest of margins in what judges called the 'closest finale ever'. The grand final aired on Sunday, with two teams competing for the title.
The finalists were footy dads Justin and Will, who had been frontrunners throughout the season, and business bosses Maria and Bailey, who surged ahead during the semi-finals. Both teams were tasked with serving 100 plates across four courses: canapés, seafood, meat, and dessert.
Justin and Will scored a total of 73 points out of 80, edging out Maria and Bailey by just one point. Judge Manu Feildel told them, 'This is the closest grand final I can remember.' Fellow judge Colin Fassnidge praised the finalists as the 'most exciting cooks I've seen in a Grand Final in a long time.'
Maria and Bailey impressed early with a caviar tartlet canapé, called an 'amazing start' by judges. Their seafood course showed 'an amazing amount of work' but lacked flavour. Their meat course, however, had a sauce so good that Colin confessed he and Manu 'actually drank it at one stage.' Their cookie dessert earned high praise from Colin, who said, 'I don't like cookies... until tonight.'
After their win, Justin and Will said, 'We've accomplished what we set out to do - we've made our kids proud, we've made ourselves proud.' Justin added, 'I just want to go home, hang out with my kids, and then? The world's our oyster.'
