Rufus Du Sol Brings the Festival Vibe Indoors for Tour Opener
The RAC Arena in Perth was transformed into a massive dance party on Friday night as homegrown electronic heroes Rufus Du Sol officially launched the Australian leg of their Inhale/Exhale tour. The beloved trio, consisting of Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George, and James Hunt, were welcomed by legions of adoring fans who had been eagerly awaiting their return.
Taking the stage just before 9pm, the group wasted no time, opening with the pulsating beats of their 2024 single, Lately, to immediately get the crowd moving. For the next two hours, the band delivered a masterclass in electronic performance, treating the thousands in attendance to a journey through their stellar discography.
A Setlist Spanning a Decade of Hits
The energy inside the arena was palpable as Rufus Du Sol seamlessly moved from early classics like Sundream and Desert Night from 2013 right through to their newest material. The atmosphere reached fever pitch during fan favourites such as You Were Right, On My Knees, and the anthemic Underwater.
It was during these moments that phones lit up the darkness to record the magic, and fans were hoisted onto shoulders for a better view of the action. The connection between the artists and their audience was undeniable, creating a shared experience of pure joy.
An Encore to Remember and a Stunning Visual Spectacle
After what seemed like the final bow following the hauntingly beautiful Innerbloom, the house lights remained down. After a few minutes of roaring applause and chants, flashing LED lights announced the band's return for a triumphant three-song encore.
The crowd erupted as they launched into Break My Love, No Place, and Music is Better, proving there was truly no place the Perth faithful would rather be. The auditory experience was perfectly complemented by a breathtaking visual display. While some stark white lights were almost blinding, the show was elevated by sweeping blue and green lasers that created an immersive 3D effect.
Lights pulsed in perfect sync with the music, and the crowd was showered with white confetti not once, but twice. A special mention must go to the agile cameraman, whose live footage projected onto the giant screens offered dynamic and creative angles, weaving between the DJ decks to capture the energy on stage.
Reflecting on the night's success, main vocalist Tyrone Lindqvist addressed the crowd, calling them "beautiful" and expressing his gratitude. "(About) 15 years ago, we didn't think we'd be playing in front of this many people, but you guys keep sharing our music and buying tickets, so we can keep doing what we love," he said, highlighting the special significance of kicking off the tour back home in Australia.
With an arsenal of irresistible tracks that make it impossible to stand still, Rufus Du Sol successfully bottled the summer festival feeling and unleashed it inside the RAC Arena, leaving every fan walking away utterly satisfied. The verdict: a spectacular four out of five stars. The trio performed a second sold-out show at the same venue on Saturday night.
