US musician Jelly Roll has sparked online debate after claiming he was treated 'like a criminal' at a Louis Vuitton store in Sydney. The Nashville singer, who has a history of criminal convictions, said staff acted as if he was going to steal from the store.
Taking to Instagram, Jelly Roll alleged the store's employees made him feel unwelcome. 'Hey man, the Louis Vuitton in Sydney, legitimately just treated us like we were finna come in and rob that place. I have never been looked at more like a crim,' he said.
Fans quickly responded, with many pointing to his facial tattoos as a likely reason for the treatment. 'Yeah face tatts imagine that. Meant to be intimidating and are. Not exactly rocket science,' one comment read. Another added, 'Face tatts tell you that reading the book by its cover can be a good choice.'
Some defended the singer, citing a stigma around tattoos in Australia. 'Australia has a weird stigma about tattoos, I've heard,' one person wrote. Jelly Roll is currently in Australia for performances at Strummingbird Festival, Harvest Rock, and Sunburnt Country.
The incident follows Jelly Roll's public admission of having an affair on his wife, Bunnie XO. He discussed the matter on the Human School podcast, stating he has worked hard to repair their relationship.
