Daniel Johns Makes ARIA History with Silver Accreditation

Daniel Johns, the former frontman of Silverchair, has been awarded the inaugural ARIA silver accreditation for his 2022 album FutureNever. The recognition was presented at Sydney's State Theatre on Saturday night, where Johns hosted a sold-out screening of his short film Daniel Johns: What If The Future Never Happened? as part of the 2025 ARIA Awards Presents program.

The silver accreditation is a new category for Australian artists who achieve 20,000 units within three years of a title's release date, applicable to releases from January 1, 2021. ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd said, 'Introducing silver accreditation is about recognising the strength and scale of local music in 2025, and Daniel Johns is the perfect artist to receive the first one.'

Johns, the most-awarded artist in ARIA history with 21 awards, has had six No.1 albums and sold more than 10 million records worldwide with Silverchair. His solo work includes the album Talk (2015) and collaborations such as DREAMS with Luke Steele. He also co-wrote Flume's Grammy-winning 'Say It' and served as musical director for the Emmy-winning series Beat Bugs.

Johns said, 'To have my second solo album FutureNever become the first ARIA-accredited silver album is such an honour, and I hope this new accreditation encourages Australian artists of all genres to stay committed to their album releases.'

He will bring What If The Future Never Happened? to Newcastle's Civic Theatre on Friday night, featuring an onstage conversation, never-before-seen photos, archival footage, unreleased recordings, and new music.
