The Australian Pinball Championship was held at Fairy Meadow's Fraternity Club, hosted by the Illawarra Pinball Club. The event began on Thursday, March 19, and ran through the weekend, with more than 130 competitors playing on 64 different pinball machines.
Escher Lefkoff from Brisbane, ranked third in the world, was crowned the Australian champion. Illawarra's own Paul Jones reached the top 16 in the tournament.
Ash Bralich from Perth, who placed third in the Western Australian state championship, said the event was a chance to compete against the best. 'It's pinball, it takes one ball, but it also can only take one ball and go straight out down the guts,' he said.
Canberra competitor Chrysanthe Psychogios highlighted the skill involved in tilting, noting that a nudge can be dangerous if too hard. Scott Piper from Brisbane, dressed as a pinball wizard, praised the community, saying it's 'growing stronger and stronger.'
