An innovative office chair blanket designed to keep workers warm and stylish has become a viral sensation, with sales surpassing 500,000 units. The product, named Warmür, was even included in gift bags for this year's Oscar nominees, highlighting its popularity.
The Warmür was created by Gold Coast entrepreneur Jane Helman, who experienced the struggle of staying warm in cold office environments. After a frustrating incident where she spilled coffee while tangled in a blanket, Helman conceived the idea of a blanket that could be worn like a blazer. She drove to her parents' home, retrieved her childhood sewing machine, and created the first prototype.
The blanket slips onto the back of an office chair, buttons around the armrests, and hangs without touching the floor. It features a zipper for a headrest and lapels that make it look like a blazer when draped over the shoulders, allowing users to remain professional during video calls. Helman initially had a local seamstress recreate her design, then launched a website and began selling made-to-order units.
After posting a TikTok about staying warm at work, the Warmür went viral. Helman received thousands of website visits and an inquiry from a New York business wanting to stock the product. Today, Warmür has achieved half a million in sales across North America and has expanded into Australia. It is stocked at Staples Canada, Uncommon Goods, and Amazon in the US, Canada, and Australia, with plans to enter Nordstrom.
Customer reviews on Amazon Australia praise the product for its discreet appearance on Zoom calls and effective warmth. One user noted it solved the problem of having to put on a sweater and ruin hair or makeup, while another called it chic and fabulous. Helman said the product is not just for offices; people use it on trains, at football games, and while lounging at home. She reported that a revamped version sold out in presale before stock arrived.
