Trump Condemned for Remarks on Rob Reiner's Death

US president Donald Trump has faced bipartisan criticism after posting inflammatory comments about the death of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele. The couple, aged 78 and 68, were found dead at their home in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Trump took to social media to blame Reiner's death on what he called the director's 'TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME', describing Reiner as 'tortured and struggling' and claiming he died 'due to the anger he caused others'. The president then praised his own administration's accomplishments.

Lawmakers from both major US parties condemned the remarks as 'petty' and inappropriate. The backlash follows a pattern of controversial statements from Trump, who also filed a lawsuit against the BBC on Monday seeking at least $5bn in damages over its editing of a speech he made before the 2021 Capitol riot.
