A motorist who allegedly threatened a man with a fake gun during a road rage incident in Melbourne's north has been arrested.

The motorist allegedly produced the gun and pointed it at the victim, threatening him before driving off in Coburg this morning, police said.

A 25-year-old man from Campbellfield was arrested after police intercepted his vehicle and found an imitation handgun in the glove box.
