The Scarborough Sunset Markets will return on November 6, running every Thursday evening for six months at the Scarborough Esplanade. The event, now in its nearly tenth year, will feature over 60 food trucks, 40 retailers, and entertainment along the coastline, with an expected 10,000 visitors each week from 5pm.
This year, the markets will adopt a more relaxed atmosphere, with stripped-back acoustic music replacing DJ sets. The Scarborough Amphitheatre will be transformed into a 'chill out lounge', featuring live acoustic performances from local musicians and fire dancers, with beach chairs for visitors to relax.
Event director Kate MacKinnon said planning began six months ago, with over 400 people involved weekly. She noted the markets mark the unofficial start of summer in Perth and aim to support a family-friendly environment. 'This year we're really leaning into making Thursday nights more about relaxing and unwinding,' she said.
New food vendors include Angelwood Pies, Uai Mate, and Divoro Focacceria, offering gourmet pies, Brazilian street food, and sourdough focaccia. Sweet treats include Japanese souffles from FuFu Cream and Hawaiian shave ice from Pool Buoys. Returning vendors will also be present.
Artisan retailers will offer soy wax candles, allergy-friendly pet treats, local photography, vintage clothing, and handcrafted jewellery. The Peach Pit will operate as The Pit Stop at the amphitheatre, serving craft beers, wines, spritzes, and frozen slushies.
Ms MacKinnon said the markets have become a must-visit destination for locals and tourists, ranking among Perth's top five attractions. The markets run every Thursday from November 6 to May 28, 5pm to 9pm.
